A Reflective Look at Trump’s Inauguration, Biden’s Legacy, and What Lies Ahead for America

As someone who’s lived a life rooted in service and discipline through my short years in the military and my current work in federal service, I’ve always believed in carrying out orders without questioning the politics behind them. I never thought I’d become someone who analyzes the intricacies of policy, legislation, and governance. Yet, at the age of 40-something, I find myself more tuned into the political fabric of this nation than ever before, and Trump’s recent inauguration as President marks a pivotal moment to reflect on where we’ve been and where we are going.

The Evolution of My Political Views

Growing up in liberal California, politics felt like a distant game played by overpaid individuals who were disconnected from everyday struggles. My values were aligned with the progressive ideals around me — until I began to see how these ideals translated into governance, especially in recent years. The California I grew up in — the “Golden State” of opportunity and innovation — is no longer the same.

The cost of living has spiraled out of control. Wildfires rage on with increasing frequency, leaving families without homes and, in some cases, without fire insurance. Cultural hubs like Hollywood no longer inspire awe but, in my opinion, have become hotbeds of mockery and division. Once a proud Californian, I now observe from afar, saddened by its decline and questioning why so many still flock there.

My views have shifted dramatically over the years, and today, I find myself aligned with conservative values. It’s not just a reaction to what I’ve seen in California but a recognition of the importance of economic stability, traditional values, and governance that puts the needs of its people first.

Trump’s Inauguration: A Bold Start

I spent the whole day (except for a few hours away with friends) watching the Inauguration Day and tuned in to the ceremony.

President Trump’s inauguration was anything but ordinary. His speech was bold, unapologetic, and reflective of a leader who has faced unprecedented criticism over the past eight years. Love him or hate him, Trump has endured relentless scrutiny from the media and political establishment, and his fiery rhetoric during his inaugural address was a clear sign that he’s ready to fight back.

He promised to “Make America Great Again,” a phrase that resonates deeply with those who feel disillusioned by the direction of the country. Trump’s speech wasn’t just a declaration of his vision — it was a rallying cry for those who believe in restoring American values, sovereignty, and economic strength.

Critics argue that his tone was combative, divisive, and lacked the unity often expected in such speeches. But for many of his supporters, this was a long-overdue response to years of what they see as unjustified attacks and vilification. Trump wasn’t speaking to everyone — he was speaking to those who’ve stood by him and believe in his mission to reshape America.

The Revocation of Biden’s Legacy

Among Trump’s first acts as President was to revoke 78 executive orders and actions from the Biden administration. This sweeping move has sparked fierce debate. Critics of Biden’s policies see these reversals as necessary to undo what they view as harmful regulations and overreach. Supporters of Biden, however, argue that these changes undermine progress on issues like climate change, diversity, and public health.

Some highlights include:

While Trump’s actions aim to reduce government overreach and bolster economic freedom, the question remains whether these moves will address key challenges like inflation and rising costs of living.

What the Next Four Years Could Bring

Trump’s promise to tackle the cost of living resonates deeply with me. As someone who has witnessed skyrocketing expenses in California, I understand how critical this issue is for everyday Americans. His plans to boost domestic energy production, reduce regulatory burdens, and prioritize American industries are steps in the right direction — but they must be balanced with sustainable policies that protect the environment and maintain global partnerships.

The next four years will also test Trump’s ability to bridge the growing divide in this country. While his supporters are energized, his detractors remain vocal and determined. The challenge lies in whether his administration can move beyond rhetoric to deliver tangible results for all Americans, not just his base.

Reflections on Biden’s Legacy

Looking back at Biden’s term, it’s clear that his administration struggled to maintain momentum in certain areas. I was not happy with him in office. The past four years have been an eyesore, in my opinion.

While his focus on climate change, social justice, and public health brought attention to critical issues, the execution often fell short. For example, ambitious climate policies alienated key industries, and efforts to expand social equity faced resistance from both political opponents and within his own party. Let’s not forget about the crisis at the southern border.

Throughout much of his presidency, the border saw record-breaking numbers of illegal crossings, creating overwhelming strain on local communities, border patrol agents, and resources. The administration faced widespread criticism for its handling of the situation, with many feeling that the policies in place encouraged the surge (can you feel my disdain as I write this?).

It wasn’t until the final stretch of Biden’s presidency — through mounting political pressure during the primaries — that the administration began to implement more robust measures. By then, however, the damage had been done, leaving a sense of disillusionment among those who felt the crisis was neglected for too long.

Oh, and let’s not forget President Biden’s final days in office, which were marked by a controversial series of pardons and commutations, including preemptive pardons for five of his family members and several political figures. While he defended these actions as necessary to protect individuals from politically motivated investigations, the timing — just hours before leaving office — raised eyebrows (myself included). To many (and my observations), it seemed a calculated and conniving move, leaving questions about accountability and the precedent it sets for future administrations.

That said, Biden’s term wasn’t without merit. His emphasis on restoring global alliances and addressing the pandemic helped stabilize a nation reeling from uncertainty. Yet, for many Americans, these accomplishments were overshadowed by economic challenges and cultural divisions.

As we embark on the next four years under President Trump’s leadership, I can’t help but feel a mix of hope and caution. His boldness and determination are undeniable, but so are the challenges that lie ahead. For me, this isn’t about being a Republican or Democrat — it’s about finding a path forward that works for all Americans.

Politics is no longer just a game played by distant figures — it’s a force that shapes every aspect of our lives. And as someone who once carried out orders without questioning their origins, I now see the importance of understanding, engaging, and holding our leaders accountable.

Here’s to the next four years — a time to reflect, rebuild, and, hopefully, thrive as a nation.

Fact vs. Fiction: Clearing the Air on Recent Executive Orders and Cost of Living Adjustments

As recent headlines and social media posts stir conversations around newly signed executive orders and initiatives, it’s important to separate fact from fiction.

Here’s a deeper dive into what these policies entail and how they impact everyday Americans:

Energy Independence & Lowering Costs:

The administration has rolled back electric vehicle mandates and lifted restrictions on domestic oil production to increase energy supply and reduce fuel costs. While these moves aim to make energy more affordable, they also raise questions about environmental impacts.

Cost of Living Adjustments:

President Trump signed an executive order directing agencies to review regulations that increase consumer costs. However, no specific cost-saving strategies or immediate adjustments to essentials like groceries have been detailed yet.

Withdrawal from WHO and Paris Agreement:

These withdrawals are presented as efforts to reduce international obligations, but they also carry risks, such as reduced collaboration on global health crises and climate challenges.

Trade Policies:

Tariffs on imports like those from Canada and Mexico aim to protect domestic industries, but they could result in higher prices for goods in the short term.

Social and Civil Rights Protections:

Actions to roll back diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and transgender protections have sparked significant debate. Supporters see this as reducing what they view as federal overreach, while critics argue these actions reverse hard-fought progress for civil rights.

Addressing the Misinformation

There’s a lot of misinformation, including claims like renaming the Gulf of Mexico or denying all migrants entry through CBP One. While some of these statements may be exaggerated or satirical, they reflect deeper concerns about these policy changes.

  • For example, CBP One’s changes don’t deny all migrants but alter how asylum applications are processed.
  • The focus on renaming the Gulf of Mexico is likely satirical and not a real policy proposal.

What This Means for You

While these changes mark significant policy shifts, their impact on the cost of living and consumer prices will take time to assess. It’s important to stay informed and rely on credible sources when evaluating how these initiatives may affect you and your family.

Sharing accurate information helps cut through the noise of misinformation. Let’s have meaningful conversations about these policies' challenges and opportunities for all Americans.
